My approach

My approach

Often the first time coming to therapy can feel strange, awkward or uncomfortable. It may be the first time you have shared your inner thoughts and feelings with another. It is understandable you may feel anxious and my response will aim to put you at ease.

I feel being supported is vital , especially at difficult times in our lives when we are in a crisis, loss, or or at significant turning points.  It may be that you are dealing with past, challenges or experiences that are still having an impact.  I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk through issues that are concerning you.

Every experience in therapy will be unique, as every two people that come together create something  unique. l work with a wide range of therapeutic styles and we can work at your pace and what  feels comfortable for you.

These are some of the ways l work :

  •  lnner child work

  • Somatic -working with stress and trauma that sit in the body

  • Attachment styles-we all have different attachment styles we learn this from early relationships with care givers.

  • Mindfulness

  • Psycho-dynamic -working within our relationship as it can reflect what goes on outside in relationships.

  • Working creatively using a wide range of materials.

During the initial session we would discuss the frequency of our appointments, initially it works better to meet on a weekly basis to build our therapeutic relationship.

It is important that the initial session feels 'comfortable enough' as working with the right therapist is important. I would be happy to refer you to an alternative counsellor. There is no obligation to come back.

If you decide to engage with therapy, l usually suggest we book six sessions and review on the fifth to see how things are going for you. It maybe things feel more resolved for you wish to end or decide to continue longer in therapy.
